GP Net Earnings

NHS England requires that earnings of doctors engaged in the practice is publicised, and the required disclosure is shown below. However, it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice, at home and outside of their “contracted” hours. Please also note that GPs marked as part time may in fact be working in excess of 40 hours a week, and are only reported as part time because of the peculiarity of how GP “sessions” are allocated. For example, 7 sessions that could equate to working over 40 hours a week may only be classed as 7/9 of full time according to the aforementioned rules.

Disclosure for tax year ending March 2022:

‘All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for
GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.
The average pay for GPs working in Brewood Medical Practice in the last finacial year
was £55,832 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 2 full time GPs, and 3 part time GPs
and 2 locums who worked in the practice for more than six months.’
