Advanced Clinical Practitioners

Advanced Clinical Practitioners are health care professionals that have studied at Masters Level or demonstrated the equivalent through a rigorous process that allows them to practice at an Advanced Level.

They have almost all the same practicing privileges a Doctor and are similar to Specialist Nurses based in hospitals. They could be from a background of Nursing, Paramedic, Pharmacy or Physiotherapy.

The two strong ACP team at Brewood Medical Practice can;

  • prescribe any medicine for any condition within their competence (including some controlled medicines) provided they have completed an Independent Prescribing qualification
  • see patients with undiagnosed, undifferentiated medical conditions and make treatment decisions, including ordering necessary investigations
  • refer patients to secondary care, although this can vary depending on local arrangements and protocols
  • undertake appropriate home visits.

The ACPs experience and skills compliment the practice and provide more appointments for patients to access either via telephone, video consultation or face to face.
